London North Eastern Railway commits to reducing its emissions by 2024-25 from its 2017-18 baseline year.
London North Eastern Railway (LNER) is a British train operating company that runs long-distance inter-city services on the East Coast Main Line between London, the North East, and Scotland. It is a subsidiary of the Department for Transport. As of 2022, LNER employs approximately 2,600 people. The company operates in key locations including London, Leeds, York, Newcastle, Edinburgh, and Aberdeen.
The Department is identifying opportunities to decarbonize its offices and operational estate. This includes measures such as using air Source Heat Pumps, solar arrays for renewable energy.
Deployment of low carbon fuels in the transport sector, support for renewable fuels such as hydrogen, and funding for the development of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production plants.
Upgrading building management systems, improving insulation, and enhancing lighting controls.
Eliminated single-use plastic cutlery, stirrers, straws, takeaway boxes, plates, and cups, either by removing them completely or replacing them with compostable/recyclable alternatives. The Department is working with their facilities management suppliers to eradicate single-use plastics and minimize/eradicate packaging in their wider supply chain.
