Scope 3 breakdown
Renewable and sustainable fuels (Biofuels)
Scope 1
Transportation Solutions (Alternative Fuels)

In 2022, Iberia also made its first purchase of sustainably sourced fuel. Specifically, the airline has signed an agreement with US chemical and advanced biofuels supplier Gevo to buy 110,700 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel over five years (i.e., 22,000 tonnes per year), enough to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 353,000 tonnes (the equivalent of removing more than 22,800 cars from the road).''

Iberia will start fuelling its flights from Los Angeles and San Francisco with 45% SAF in 2028.

Renewable energy (Combined)
Scope 2
Renewable Energy Adoption (General)

As of 2019, all electrical energy consumed at Iberia-owned facilities comes from 100% renewable sources. The environmental impact resulting from the use of this energy is zero, as the emission of greenhouse gases, such as CO2, is reduced to zero, contributing to the goals of decarbonisation and improvements in air quality.

Reusable packaging
Scope 3
Waste Reduction and Management (Recycling and Composting)

In VIP lounges, plastics have been eliminated from the amenities and have been replaced by other products, reducing disposable material by 6.5 tonnes in addition to the 23.5 tonnes resulting from the use of reusable packaging.

Following the relaxation of the health measures put into action due to COVID-19, the cabin plastic reduction plan was once again implemented, eliminating plastic wrapping from blankets and pillows, in addition to the removal of packaging from toiletry bags. A large part of the material used for the catering service (cutlery, crockery, trays, etc.) is recyclable or reusable.
